Six players from the Chattanooga area and GPS coach Susan Crownover highlight the Tennessee Sports Writers Division II All-State Softball Team announced today.
Crownover was chosen coach of the year after guiding the Bruisers to their second straight Division II state title.
Chosen to the team were pitcher Megan Wagner from GPS, infielder Jessica Phillips from GPS, catcher Jackie Baird from GPS, outfielder Kamri Chester from GPS, outfielder Nina Davenport from Baylor and utility player Sam Everett from Baylor.
Chosen to the Class AAA team from the Chattanooga area were pitcher Holly Thomas from Ooltewah, pitcher Katie Freels from Rhea County, infielder Bri Shoemake from Ooltewah, catcher Kaitlin Neil from Ooltewah and Soddy-Daisy outfielder Ashlee England.
Coach Norma Nelson from Ooltewah was chosen the AAA coach of the year after leading the Lady Owls to the state championship.
Four Chattanooga-area players were selected to the Class AA team, including Hixson pitcher Dawon Millwood, Hixson infielder Whitney Galloway, Sweetwater pitcher Kayla Karns and Chattanooga Christian infielder Laura Curtis.
In Class AA, the all-state honorees were Whitwell pitcher Amber Webb and Whitwell outfielder Whitney Long.
