Major crimes investigators with Chattanooga Police Department have arrested a 24-year-old first degree murder suspect discovered hiding with his girlfriend in Bradley County.

Police said Andrew Graves of 1009 Graysville Road was taken into custody at an apartment complex on Elrod and Lay streets in Cleveland, where some of his relatives live.

Chattanooga Police Department was assisted by the Bradley County Sheriff's Department in making the arrest.

Graves has been charged with the murder of Michael Newby, 23, who was shot and killed around 4 a.m. Thursday in his 1236 North Concord Road home.

No court date has been set for Graves, who is being held on $200,000 bond in Hamilton County Jail.

According to a CPD press release issued Thursday after the shooting, officers found Graves' victim lying face down in his home, behind his front door. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Investigators were able to locate a juvenile female who was in the residence at the time of the shooting along with another male and female,” according to the police statement.

“She stated that the suspect, Andrew Graves, 24, came to the front door as Newby ran out the back door. Newby re-entered the residence through the front and was shot in the head by Graves."
