GNTC Holds Commencement Ceremony Thursday

Thursday, January 12, 2012

Georgia Northwestern Technical College will hold a Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center in Dalton. The college will present approximately 295 awards at the ceremony for summer and fall 2011 graduates.

The keynote speaker will be Joe W. Yarbrough, senior vice president, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering at Mohawk Industries.

A Georgia native, Mr. Yarbrough was born in Rome, and has resided in Dalton since 1972. He and his wife of 26 years, Nanette, have five adult children and eight grandchildren. An active member of Grove Level Baptist Church, he currently serves on the Long-range Planning Committee, the Watchman Prayer Ministry, as an adult Sunday School leader, and an usher.

He is a graduate of Auburn University (1970) with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and has since completed numerous leadership development and skill improvement programs. After six years in various positions with Coronet Industries, Mr. Yarbrough joined Aladdin Mills in June, 1978 as Director of Manufacturing. Aladdin Mills was merged into Mohawk Industries in February, 1994. In the first quarter of 1995, he was named vice president Manufacturing and in March, 2004, Joe became executive vice president – Operations. He currently serves as senior vice president, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.

These roles provided an opportunity to lead the integration of new technologies for the business and to be active in the assimilation of numerous mergers and acquisitions. Also an active community leader, Mr. Yarbrough currently serves on the boards of directors of RossWoods Adult Day Services and is the Chairman of the Building Campaign Steering Committee; the Dalton-Whitfield Chamber of Commerce and is the chairman elect; the Northwest Georgia Healthcare Partnership; Georgia Northwestern Technical College; and the Carpet America Recovery Effort.

Additionally, he serves as chairman of the Carpet and Rug Institute Strategic Issues Leadership Council.
