Alexander, Corker, Fleischmann, DesJarlais Comment On Attack Of U.S. Embassy In Libya

  • Wednesday, September 12, 2012

Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tn.) on Wednesday released the following statement on the killing of U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens along with three American diplomats:

“The killing of Ambassador Stevens and three other American officials is a tragedy. It is a grim reminder that our Foreign Service officers put their lives on the line every day. Our government should make certain that these killers are brought to justice.”

Senator Bob Corker, (R-Tn.) made the following statement:

“I am shocked and appalled by the senseless act of violence that took the lives of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans at our consulate in Libya and extend my deepest condolences to their families. Nothing can justify this unprovoked attack by extremists on innocent Americans working tirelessly to help the Libyan people transition to democracy,” Corker said. “Having had the pleasure of meeting Chris during his confirmation process earlier this year, I can say he was an impressive individual, full of optimism, courage and commitment and a role model for those who served under him. I hope that we can embrace his vision for our relationship with Libya and continue to move forward with helping to secure democracy in a critical region for U.S. and global security.”

Congressman Chuck Fleischmann made the following remarks:

“The attack on our Embassy in Libya is an attack on our nation, and on our values of free expression.  Every day, champions of liberty find themselves under siege by those who resort to violence to enforce their values upon us.  We must remain vigilant and confident as a society in defense of our values.  My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and the  victims of this attack.”

Representative Scott DesJarlais, M.D. (Tn.-04) released the following statement:

“I was deeply saddened to hear the news that our ambassador to Libya and three of his staff were killed in a senseless act of violence yesterday day in Benghazi. Our diplomatic corps are truly the unsung heroes in protecting the freedoms and liberties our nation so greatly cherishes. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and I hope that justice will be brought to those responsible for this inexcusable attack on democracy.”
