A student who was injured in an accident involving a Gator all-terrain vehicle has filed a lawsuit.

Heather Whalen and her parents, Michael and Debra Whalen, are suing the Hamilton County Schools, principal Gail Chuy, football coach Ted Gatewood and student Ayana Barrett.

The suit, filed by attorney J. Taylor Walker, says on Aug. 7, 2012, Ms. Whalen was a passenger in the Gator driven by Ms. Barrett. It says Ms. Barrett abruptly engaged the vehicle and quickly accelerated it while making an unexpectedly sharp turn. It caused Ms. Whalen "to be thrown out of the moving vehicle and violently onto the ground."

She received severe personal injuries, it was stated.

The suit asks $400,000 in damages.
