Retired Registered Nurse Worked At Memorial Over 25 Years

Lillian Smith, 84, of Hixson, died on Sunday, September 15, 2013.

Lillian was born in Belle Ellen, Al., and was a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area.  She was a retired registered nurse having worked with Memorial Hospital for over 25 years.  Lillian was a longtime member with First Centenary United Methodist Church.  In her younger days, Lillian and her late husband were avid square dancers. 

Lillian was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, William Claude Smith, Jr.

She is survived by her four children, John (Vickie) Smith and Diane (Thomas) Wooten both of Hixson, Susan Maliska of Hayesville, N.C. and Cathie Carter of Chattanooga; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Atterton and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, at the North Chapel.

Services for Lillian will follow at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home chapel with Dr. David Harr officiating.  Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. EST on Thursday at Red Hill Cemetery, Whitwell, Tn.

The family would like memorial contributions made in Lillian’s name the Congregational Care at First Centenary United Methodist Church, 419 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37402. 

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
