Mamie Richards
Mamie Estelle Alley Richards, 91, of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, died on Monday, September 23, 2013.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Alton Richards. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Alton David Richards II and one of her five children, Rebecca, who died as an infant at the age of two, leaving a life-long void.
Over her lifetime, Mamie was a devoted wife and mother. She was an avid church member, student of the Bible and a prayer warrior. One by one, the passing of time and the ravages of osteoporosis took these away from her. She is no longer suffering.
She is survived by four children, Janet Loretta Bass of Traskwood, Ark.; Donald Wayne Richards of Palm Bay, Fla.; Judy Carolyn Huett of St. Louis, Mo. Mamie lived with her son in Soddy Daisy, Dr. Theodore David Richards and daughter-in-law, Susan. She is also survived by a sister, Hazel Curry of Visalia, California along with eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, 109 East Broad Street, Martinsville, Va. 24115, with Dr. Andy Smith officiating.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday.
She will be laid to rest next to her husband, infant daughter and mother in Oakwood Cemetery in Martinsville, Va.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Benevolence Fund at First Baptist Church of Soddy Daisy, P.O. Box 1357, Soddy Daisy, Tn. 37384, so that in some small measure, she can assist the homeless and distraught as she would always recount that her widowed mother did during the Great Depression.
The family covets your prayers during this time.
