Why Is Senator Corker So Against Unions? - And Response

  • Tuesday, February 18, 2014

To Senator Corker - I don't understand, why were you so against the union coming in the VW plant in Chattanooga? When you worked at DuPont for John Martin Construction, while in college, you were drawing union wages. What changed your mind?

And as for the Rev. Mitch McClure, he needs to stay behind the pulpit, out of politics and union business to take care of his church.

Dear Mr. Jones,

I don't know anybody who is flatly against the concept of organized labor. I do know that the voters at VW just made our $600 million investment a lot less risky. In fact, they saved all of our back sides. Google UAW 2008, or any date just prior to the Detroit collapse and you'll see why. I haven't forgotten GM paying big time salaries to idle laborers in shuttered plants, plants that built the fabulous Pontiac Aztec and the like, so that UAW members who were building the popular Suburbans and Tahoes and 1,500s wouldn't strike. Things were ugly in Nashville, too, when Saturn fell. Granted, the UAU was just a part of the problem but it was a big part. It's not all unions, it's the UAW and what once was Detroit. Chattanooga ain't Detroit, thank goodness.

One thing I don't understand is why the law says you have to have a union like UAW to have a works council. Why? That looks, feels and smells like a rat. I bet it is a dead rat but I don't know. The UAW's track record speaks for itself.

As for Senator Corker, I only hope he keeps it up. Everybody doesn't agree with me, I would be 60/40 moderate-conservative, so take this for what it's worth: Bob Corker has never once said or done anything that I don’t agree with. I also think he is the only senator in the U.S.A. who actually puts the U.S.A. (and Chattanooga) first. So pardon me but I'm gonna vote for him every time.

Maybe next time it'll be for Prez.
