The Bradley County NAACP in collaboration with the 100 Black Men of Bradley County, the Minister’s Alliance, and Lee University announce the King Weekend events set for Jan. 18-19.

On Sunday, a Community Worship Service will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at 4 p.m.  The guest speaker for the occasion will be Minister Oscar Lewis, Jr.

of North Cleveland Church of God.  Mr. Lewis was born in West Palm Beach, Fla., where he was ordained and served as the Youth Pastor and District Youth Director.  He relocated to Cleveland to deepen his call to full-time ministry.  He will be graduation from the Pentacostal Theological Seminary in Spring 2015 with a Master’s in Divinity.  Lewis is married to Alisha and has two beautiful twin daughters.  Music ministry will be provided by Pleasant Grove Male Chorus and Adoration, a community-wide choir.

On M.L, King Day at 6 p.m., the celebration will continue with the Annual Dream Keeper Award Ceremony at Lee University’s Conn Center.  The speaker for the occasion will be Miss Teeona Hall, a Cleveland native who was a long-time Dream Keeper and graduate of Walker County High School.  Hall was a recipient of the 100 Black Men of Bradley County Scholarship which facilitated her attendance and graduation from  Austin Peay University, where she earned a Bachelors in Social Work.  Shortly after earning her degree she was hired as a case manager at the Department of Children Services as a case manager.  Teeona is a prime example of a young lady living the “dream”.  She will impart words of wisdom to the students who will be recognized.  Music will be provided by the Lee UniversityEvangelistic Singers.  There will also be a dramatic reading of the “I Have a Dream” speech by Amari Hines.

The Dream Keeper awards recipients are minority students in the city and county school systems who have maintained a 3.0 grade point average or above in grades 7 through 12 throughout the first semester of school.
