  • Friday, October 16, 2015
State Senator Ken Yager and Representative Ron Travis announced Friday that Dayton will receive a $449,596 Community Development Block for sewer system improvements. Sen. Yager and Rep. Travis made the announcement after receiving the information from the Department of Economic and Community Development.

“I am pleased to announce that Dayton will receive this major grant and want to thank our local officials who were instrumental in helping secure these funds," said Sen. Yager.  "These funds will assist in vital sewer and water projects which improve the public health and quality of life for the citizens. This kind of infrastructure is very important to the well-being of our citizens and to the overall economic development of our county.
Infrastructure is a key component of job creation.”

“Quality and sound infrastructure is essential to our community as we work to create an environment in our area that is attractive for new businesses to locate here,” said Rep. Travis. “These grants serve a vital role in the economic development of rural areas across Tennessee and I am grateful for the state’s commitment to seeing Rhea County succeed.”

The funds were allocated under a procedure authorized by the Tennessee General Assembly.  ECD administers the grant program based on priorities set at the local level where community needs are best known.
