Marie Rose Codrington, 27, was arrested on Sunday after she allegedly robbed a Mapco store and was found with several large knives on her person after attempting to run on foot from the scene.
The store clerk said he was outside in his car smoking a cigarette in the 8600 block of Hickory Valley Road when he saw someone with a masked face enter the store and lock the door.
He said that he saw the person bend down next to the safe behind the counter before he pulled away to put some distance between himself and the suspect.
When officers responded, they found the suspect was still inside. An officer gave orders for the defendant to stop, but she refused and exited through another door.
According to the arrest report, she began running toward Highway 58, ignoring commands to halt. Officers continued to chase her on foot until she eventually fell to the ground, then sat up.
She allegedly had her hands tucked in her waistband and refused to remove them, despite numerous commands to do so. An officer then tased her in the back, but she continued to resist arrest, grabbing the officer’s hand as he attempted to put handcuffs on her.
Finally the defendant was detained and she was found with $560 in cash on her person, which was the total amount missing from the store.
She was also found with a large kitchen knife and another knife which she had stuck into the ground before being arrested.
Because she assumedly went into the store with the knives, Ms. Codrington is charged with aggravated robbery as well as theft over $500, evading arrest, and resisting arrest.
