Hutcheson Medical Center Bankruptcy Trustee Says Hospital Still Providing "Safe Quality Care"

  • Monday, November 2, 2015

Ronald Glass, the trustee for the bankruptcy of Hutcheson Medical Center in Fort Oglethorpe, said the hospital continues to provide "safe, quality medical care."

He said a report by court-appointed patient ombudsman Susan Goodman inaccurately claimed that the hospital's financial problems were having a negative impact on patient care.

Ms. Goodman said she was referring the hospital to the state licensing board. She said the census had dropped as low as five and emergency room use was down.

Trustee Glass said the decision to cut certain services, including the intensive care unit, helped improve finances and shore up other patient care areas.

He said the hospital had passed several recently surveys by outside inspection teams.

Trustee Glass said the surveys of the main hospital and adjacent nursing home showed no incidents of patients being in immediate jeopardy or of significant care concerns.

Meanwhile, another potential purchaser has come forward with a $7.2 million offer for the nursing home, which is full with over 100 residents.

Maybrook Healthcare is making the officer.

The Walker County Development Authority is seeking to purchase the hospital's Chickamauga Clinic. But the U.S. Trustee has filed objections to that deal.

The Trustee said the proposed deal would not maximize the value of the asset.
