Anderson Says Towing Ordinance Needs Tightening To Prevent "Gouging"

  • Tuesday, April 21, 2015

City Councilman Chris Anderson said the city's towing ordinance needs tightening to prevent some towing firms from "gouging" members of the public.

He said the maximum charge is $150, but some towers are adding another $50.

He asked that a clause be added to prevent that.

Commissioner Anderson said he regrets when citizens who get towed downtown say they plan to never again visit the riverfront.

He said high towing charges can leave a sour taste in the mouths of local residents and visitors.

Commissioner Anderson said even at the $150 charge that Chattanooga has the highest towing charge in the state.

The council is also considering adding a requirement that towing bill receipts include details of the ordinance.
