Pedestrian Killed On North Dalton Bypass Thursday Night

  • Friday, October 14, 2016

The Dalton Police Department is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash on the North Dalton Bypass that killed a Chatsworth man Thursday evening. The victim had apparently run out of gas and was attempting to cross the highway when he was hit by a car, said police.

The crash happened at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Thursday. Jerry Jones, 63, of Chatsworth had run out of gas while traveling eastbound on the Georgia Highway 3/North Dalton Bypass. His van was parked on the right hand shoulder of the road. Mr. Jones, who was wearing dark blue coveralls and black boots, was apparently crossing the highway northbound towards a gas station when he was hit by a Ford Focus driven by Kimberly Young, 37, in the left hand eastbound lane. Mr. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is continuing and the DPD traffic unit is still working to collect more evidence in the case. Initial results of the investigation indicate that Ms. Young did not have a chance to avoid the crash. At this time, no charges have been filed.
