Playing in front of a packed house for the annual Volley For A Cure match the Lee volleyball team scored a decisive Gulf South Conference victory over West Georgia, 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-18) on Friday evening from Walker Arena.
The Lady Flames used a balanced scoring attack with six different players recording at least six kills. Senior Catherine Conley and junior Carly Callahan led the way with nine slams each. Senior Blaire Beamer and junior Brooke Wilsman followed with seven slams while sophomore Emily Bento and senior Crystal Dedes added six respectively.
Sadie Johnson did a little bit of everything for Lee as she tallied 19 assists added 11 digs defensively and caught West Georgia napping with three kills.
Makayla Beebe added a match high 16 digs.
As a team the Lady Flames hit a sizzling .352 for the match, including at a .520 clip in a dominating 25-10 second set victory.
We had really great time out there tonight and this is always a fun match for us to play in front of a great crowd," Beamer said with smile after the match. "We just want to show our support for this great foundation (Mary Ellen Locher) and for everyone effected by cancer."
West Georgia was led by a trio of players with five kills each in Paige Berriochoa, Faith Pearson and Devon Dickey. Madi Fleming and Kelcie Zimmer split time at the setter position and each had 12 assists.
The win draws the Lady Flames even at 12-12 overall and 9-9 in conference play. The victory also propels Lee to the all-important sixth and final playoff spot in the GSC Tournament with just two matches remaining. West Georgia falls to 4-24 and 1-17.
Lee will step out of conference on Tuesday as they welcome Trevecca to the Sport Court at Walker Arena. The Lady Flames will wrap up the regular season with a trip to Shorter on Thursday and a home date with Mississippi College on Friday.
Prior to the start of the match the Lady Flames took time to honor their four seniors, Emily Philpott, Conley, Beamer and Dedes.
