Betty Godfrey
Betty Tate Godfrey, 83, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, December 24, 2016.
Born in Gordon County, Ga., and a graduate of Plainville High School and valedictorian of her senior class, Mrs. Godfrey lived Red Bank for the past 59 years. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she was a long-time member of Hixson First Baptist Church.
Betty T. Godfrey is survived by her husband of 60 years, James Robert Godfrey; her son, James Tate Godfrey, and his wife, Lourdes M. Godfrey; her daughter, Teresa Godfrey Norman and her husband, Timothy Eugene Norman, and their son, Benjamin Tate Norman and daughter, Sarah Beth Norman.
Mrs. Godfrey is also survived by three bothers, Richard Vinson Tate (Rome, Ga.), Doyle Tate (Miami) and Lawrence Tate (Greensboro, N.C.) and one sister, Helen Anne Tate Davenport (Calhoun, Ga.).
Mrs. Godfrey was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Grady Tate and Lillie Ada (Shope) Tate; one brother, J. B. Tate; and four sisters, Ira Mae (Tate) Stephens, Eva (Tate) Richardson, Martha (Tate) Stone and Mary Francis Tate.
The family will host visitation on Tuesday, Dec. 27, from 4-7 p.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
