Sara Kirby Fortney, 84, of East Brainerd, died peacefully on December 2, 2016, at Rosewood of Fort Oglethorpe Senior Living Community.
Born in McMinnville, Tn., where she attended high school later moving to Chattanooga. She retired from Hamilton County Clerk Bill Knowles' office after many years of service.
She also worked several years for AMG International.
Sara loved working with crafts and ceramics. She and her late husband, Charley participated in many craft shows in Tennessee and North Georgia.
Sara was a member of Concord Baptist Church where she had taught in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and enjoyed the fellowship of her Sunday School class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Fortney and parents, Lester and Margaret Kirby.
She is survived by her son, Brian Fortney; granddaughter, Caitlin (Jeremy) Brooks; and great-grandson, Travis Brooks, and her caregivers, Tom and Sibyl Carmichael; all of Chattanooga.
Services will be held on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Bill Horton officiating.
Graveside services will be on Monday, at 10 a.m. CST at the Mountain View Cemetery, McMinnville, Tn.
