Maintaining Dalton State’s Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business Accreditation keeps the College in an elite group that can offer business students a higher quality education.
Dalton State’s School of Business was recently re-accredited by the AACSB International, a global nonprofit organization of educational institutions and businesses devoted to the advancement of management education. It was originally accredited in 2010.
“Accreditation by AACSB is a testament to the quality of education business students receive at Dalton State,” said Dr. Larry Johnson, dean of the School of Business. “It gives our graduates an advantage when applying for jobs because employers know they are from an institution with high quality faculty and a rigorous curriculum that teaches the skills employers want. Also, graduates who plan to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration are exempt from taking preparatory courses. It is a lot of work; but, when it comes to our students and the community we serve, it is worth all the effort.”
AACSB accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education and has been earned by less than 5 percent of the world’s business programs. Dalton State’s School of Business is one of 469 accredited schools in the United States, and of those, Dalton State has the fourth lowest cost. It is the only state college in the University System of Georgia accredited by the AACSB.
“It takes a great deal of commitment and determination to earn and maintain AACSB Accreditation,” said Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International. “Business schools must not only meet specific standards of excellence, but their deans, faculty, and professional staff must make a commitment to ongoing continuous improvement to ensure that the institution will continue to deliver the highest quality of education to students.”
AACSB-accredited schools have the highest quality faculty, relevant and challenging curriculum, and provide educational and career opportunities that are not found at other business schools, according to the organization.
“This accreditation is yet another symbol of the rigor and quality of Dalton State’s academic programs,” said Dr. Margaret Venable, president of Dalton State.
Dalton State’s School of Business offers Bachelor of Business Administration degrees in Accounting, Finance and Applied Economics, Management, Management Information Systems, and Marketing, as well as a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Technology Management.
