Hamilton County Teacher For 40 Years Also Taught At Chattanooga State

Norma Joyce Brooks, 79, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, died on Sunday, February 21, 2016.  

She was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church.  Dr. Brooks taught in Hamilton County Schools for 40 years and also taught at Chattanooga State Technical Community College for 10 years.  She loved the Lord, playing and teaching music, and her son, Tim Brooks.

She was the first female president of the Brainerd Kiwanis Club, a member of National Education Retired Teachers Association, former president of the Freedom Foundation and president of Hamilton County Baptist Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie Hugh and Janie Marie Spain Holder and a sister, Ernestine Marie Holder

She is survived by her son, Jonathan T. “Tim” Brooks of Fort Oglethorpe.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, at Brainerd Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Rowland officiating.  Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.  

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge.

Memorial contributions may be made to Brainerd Baptist Church or to the Hamilton County Baptist Association (HACOBA).
