William Thompson
William Henry "Dub" Thompson, 87, of Chickamauga, died at his residence on August 20, 2016.
He retired from Yellow Freight Trucking after 42 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 300 and a World War II veteran. He was stationed in Japan and Guam while serving with the U.S. Army/Air Force. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal in June of 1949. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Agnes (Howard) Thompson; sister, Nancy Thompson; brother, Donnie Thompson; former spouse, Louise Thompson and step-daughter, Tammy McGaha Dowd.
He is survived by his wife, Frances McGaha Thompson; son, William H. (Amanda) Thompson, Jr.; daughters, Patricia (David) Chapman and Susan Thompson; four grandchildren, Ty, Lauren, Amy and Mindy; eight great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Cathy (Fred) Hixon, Pennie Callahan; six step grandchildren, Rusty, Jamie, Rebecca, Michael, Kevin and JP; and 10 step great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m. at the LaFayette Memory Gardens, LaFayette, with the Reverend Terry Burns officiating.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, Aug. 21, from 2–6 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
