Bernard John O’Brien
Bernard John O’Brien, 84, of Chattanooga, died on Tuesday, September 6, 2016.
A native of Lawrence, MA, he has been a resident of the Chattanooga area for the past 22 years and was a member of the St. Stephen Catholic Church.
A graduate of West Point, he then went on to graduate from Suffolk University School of Law and also attended Harvard for graduate classes. Mr. O’Brien was retired from the U.S. government as a federal judge for the Social Security Administration. He served in the U.S. Army for six years and then served in the reserves. He retired at the rank of major.
He was the son of the late Doris and Alphonse O’Brien.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Hopkins O’Brien; sisters, Virginia Lounsbury (Paul), Danville, NH and Donna Adams, Derry, NH; brothers, Lawrence O’Brien (Loretta), Romney, WVa and Daniel O’Brien (Helen), Methuen, MA; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 12, at St. Stephen Catholic Church with Father Manuel Perez officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 8214 East Brainerd Road.
