A Soddy Daisy man pleaded guilty on Monday to vehicular homicide in connection with a wreck in early April 2015 in which a woman was killed and four others injured.
Russell Edward Stephens was given a 10-year sentence.
He also got three-year terms on pleas to reckless aggravated assault as well as 11 months and 29 days for DUI..
Police said Stephens was high on drugs at the time.
Police said he was intoxicated on meth along with Xanax and methadone.
Brenda Boren, 68, died in the wreck on a Friday afternoon on Hixson Pike. Stephens struck another vehicle head-on around 3 p.m. in the 6800 block. His vehicle crossed the center line after suddenly veering.
Ms. Boren succumbed to her injuries on the scene. The other four suffered non-life threatening injuries
Police at the time said the driver and passenger suffered "life-altering injuries."
Ms. Boren was in the back seat of the vehicle that was hit.
Stephens was initially charged with vehicular homicide, DUI, three counts of reckless aggravated assault, failure to maintain lane, driving left of center, failure to exercise due care, driving on a revoked license and not having insurance.
He was arrested after initially going into hiding.
