Boyd Forming Task Force On Finding New Site For Sheriff's Firing Range

  • Wednesday, November 29, 2017

County Commissioner Tim Boyd said he is forming a task force to look into a new site for the Sheriff's Department firing range.

The range is currently on Moccasin Bend, but the long-range plan is to turn sections of the historic Bend over to the National Park Service.

Commissioner Boyd said the plan is for the task force to provide the County Commission by May 1 with several options for the county to pursue.

He said several commission members will be on the panel along with staff members from the Sheriff's Department.

Commissioner Boyd heads the commission's corrections and security committee.

At one time, the Chattanooga Police Department and the Sheriff's Office planned a joint facility on E. 11th Street, but that idea fell through.
