Wendell Dewayne McLemore has been charged in connection with the theft of items from Lakeside Elementary School.

McLemore, 18, of 5435 Winniespan Road, was charged with theft of property over $2,500, theft of property over $1,000, two counts of burglary of a business and vandalism.

Lakeside Elementary officials reported Dec. 15 that the school had been burglarized. Side windows were broken and classrooms entered.

The thieves took a new 60" color TV, a laptop computer and five IPads. The items were valued at $4,600.

Police found that McLemore was a possible suspect. He was located at his residence on Dec. 21 and admitted to the burglary. He said he would try to recover the stolen IPads from Kelly Sanders.

McLemore turned over the sweatshirt and gloves he wore during the break-in.

Police let McLemore try to recover the stolen items, but he was unsuccessful.

Police located him at his house on the day after Christmas. When he refused to come to the door, officers broke inside and took him into custody.

He gave a taped statement in which he admitted to taking part in the burglary as well as one at the same school on Nov. 22.

He claimed he was only a lookout and was present when two of the stolen IPads were sold.
