Go Dark On Halloween

  • Monday, October 29, 2018

Haven’t we experienced enough horror in this country in the last week?  There just seems to be something so wrong about celebrating Halloween, or anything else this week.

Let this be, at the very least, a teachable moment, especially for our children.  Let us use this opportunity to explain the vileness of the attacks that occurred last week, both for who they were against and why.  And then plan to do something with our children that will help to keep this malignancy of fear that has spread across this land from taking hold in their lives as well, and perpetuating more acts of hatred and violence in the future like the ones we have just experienced.

So, at the very least, on Halloween night, keep your children in, and turn off your front porch lights to symbolize a recognition for the darkness that has fallen over our land as an expression of outrage as well as a show of support for those minority citizens, immigrants and refugees who are being singled out as legitimate targets for acts of hate and violence.
