James Carter Montgomery, age 83, of LaFayette, Georgia, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius Montgomery and Roberta McSears Montgomery; sister, JoAnn Montgomery; brothers, Gerry Montgomery and Julius Montgomery, Jr.; three sons, two granddaughters, and one grandson.
He was a U. S. Army Veteran, retired from Roper Corporation, and was a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors are his wife of 42 years, Gwendolyn Joyce Jackson Montgomery; three sons, Samuel Montgomery, Donald (Valerie) Lawrance, and Clifford (Susan) Jackson; three daughters, Vernetta Shropshire, Julia Griffin, and Audrey (Jerry) Bundy; daughters-in-law, Pamela Jackson, Tonya Montgomery; 25 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Vinson, Bessie Montgomery, Mae Pearl Jackson; brothers-in-law, William (Denise) Jackson, Cecil (Gail) Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at noon at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 223 Dunwoody Road, LaFayette, GA. 30728. His remains will lie in state at the funeral home on Tuesday after noon until 8 p.m. and at the church one hour before the service. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military rites.
