Former City Councilman Yusuf Hakeem is among those featured in the newly opened African American Living Legends exhibit at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center.

 

A reception in his honor was held at the exhibit.

 

Others honored include the members of the Impressions, Rep.

JoAnne Favors, retired Harlem Globetrotter Paul "Showtime" Gaffney, and Councilwoman Demetrus Coonrod.


Mr. Hakeem was chosen for his decades of service as an elected official on the Chattanooga City Council and on a governor-appointed board, as well as his years serving on committees, boards, and volunteering in the community. 


Mr. Hakeem said, "The only limitations you have are those you impose on yourself."  


The "Living African-American Legends" exhibit is on display at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center through June 1.

 

Mr. Hakeem is currently a candidate for House District 28.
