  • Wednesday, May 8, 2024
The Cleveland State baseball team turned on the offense in the final inning to survive and move on in the region tournament.

The Cougars entered the ninth inning down 6-3 before putting up six runs in the top half of the inning and hanging on in the bottom half to take a 9-8 elimination game victory from Columbia State.

The Chargers started the bottom of the ninth with two singles and a double scoring a run and having two in scoring position down two runs. Cleveland State then turned a ground ball back to the pitcher into a double play.
The next batter then singled home a run, but the Cougars were able to pick up the final out of the game when the last batter grounded out.

There were 29 hits total and 10 pitchers used between the teams throughout the game. Bryson Trammell led the way for Cleveland State going 4-4 with a run scored and three RBI. Riley Orr and Evan Goins each drove in two runs.

Next up is an elimination game show down with Chattanooga State. First pitch is scheduled for May 8 at 3 p.m. eastern/2 p.m. central time. The winner heads to the semi-final round.
