  • Tuesday, March 13, 2018

Senator Bob Corker released the following statement regarding President Donald J. Trump’s intention to nominate Mike Pompeo for Secretary of State:

“I had a very good conversation with Director Pompeo this morning and look forward to meeting with him soon.

As I shared with the president, the committee will consider his nomination as expeditiously as possible.

“I also want to thank Rex Tillerson for his tireless service to our country as Secretary of State. We have enjoyed a very good working relationship, and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee expects to hold a hearing on the nomination in April. In January 2017, Mr. Pompeo was confirmed to serve as director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) by a vote of 66 to 32.
