Local Radio Figure John "Bear" Johnson Dies At 60

Longtime local radio figure John "Bear" Johnson has died at the age of 60.

Born in Pensacola, Fla., he spent the past 35 years in Chattanooga working in radio. "Bear" programmed many stations and different formats as well as serving as production manager.

On the air, he could be heard on Jet 94 as Dr. Jay, on Rock 105 as Rockin' John Thomas and on Magic 102 as John Sinclair.

In addition to being one of Chattanooga's most recognizable voices on radio, "Bear" could be heard on many television commercials.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grace and J.B.

Johnson.

He is survived by his daughter, Isabella Johnson, sister, Janie Wahunt and husband, Jimmy, sister, Cheryl Jones, husband, Don,  niece, Regina Durham, and nephew, William Matt Litteken.

A private ceremony will be held for family members and a celebration of his life for friends and family will take place in June, time and location to be announced.
