Ruby Cagle is honored by Hospice

Hospice honored 92-year-old Ruby Cagle on Friday for her service at Pearl Harbor.  Mrs. Cagle was secretary to Admiral Chester Nimitz, the man who was in charge of the Pacific Fleet.

Her son Ben said his mother knew Eleanor Roosevelt and asked Winston Church to “take a seat” when he showed up to visit the Admiral. Mr. Cagle said his mother talked to General Douglas MacArthur when he came to the Admirals office. He said Bob Hope even dropped by for a chat.

When these people came to Pearl Harbor, their first stop was Admiral Nimitz’ office.

Ruby Cagle met her husband Berton at Pearl Harbor and they were married.

Mr. Cagle said he and his brothers have always loved and respected their parents.  They have been and continue to be an example of sacrifice, courage and love.

Making the presentation was Lt. Gen. Rick Ellis (retired). General Ellis is a hospice volunteer.

Mrs. Cagle will soon celebrate her 93rd birthday.  She is a resident of Life Care of Hixson.
