Dalton Roberts
County Commissioners Greg Beck and Chester Bankston on Wednesday proposed honoring "two iconic county figures" - former County Mayors Dalton Roberts and Claude Ramsey.
They recommended designating the Riverwalk from the dam to either the Boathouse Restaurant or Ross's Landing Park in honor of Mr. Roberts.
The resolution called for renaming Discovery Drive at the industrial park in tribute to Mr. Ramsey, who was a leading figure in setting up the industrial park and landing Volkswagen as its main anchor.
It was noted that approval would need to be gained from the city of Chattanooga on both moves.
Also, Volkswagen would be asked if it would go along with the road change by its plant.
Commissioner Beck said plaques honoring both individuals would be erected.
He noted that the commission was recently approached about "doing something as a memorial for former County Executive Dalton Roberts in in recognition of the achievements to which he led this county."
Also, he said, "It has been noted that former County Mayor Claude Ramsey has no memorial to recognize the many accomplishments he spear-headed our county in achieving."
Commissioner Beck then outlined the proposal to honor "the herculean accomplishments of those two men."
