Michael Henry Is Our Hope For Our Schools

  • Thursday, July 26, 2018

I am a veteran of the Hamilton County School Board, as I served on the Board for 29 years. First let me say I strongly support Michael Henry for School Board District 6. I know what it takes to make decisions for all of our students. I knew the moment I met him that Michael Henry is our hope for our schools.

This is what I see. Michael Henry is a man of fine character. Michael Henry is not led by others. He does not make decisions based on his own interest or that of organizations trying to tell him what to do. He keeps both ears open to constituents and makes up his own mind by compiling ideas from the community. He has worked and volunteered in our schools and has no personal interest in being on the School Board besides helping our students. Because he cares.

Michael Henry is the product of hard work and dedication as a traditional public school student, K-12 as well as college. What has the opposition done in our schools with an elite magnet school education and a degree from one of America’s top 100 most expensive schools at a private university out of state?

Mr. Henry is not making broad promises but is able to speak to specific examples of past success and future initiatives.

Michael Henry has moved beyond simply talking to actually working with some of the most extreme have-nots in our schools. Prior to being on the School Board, I was a teacher in the classroom. You need to be in the classroom to fully understand what these students come from each morning before school and where they go once they leave the school. Until students come to school with respect and positivity in mind, they will continue to lose everything they learn each day when they go home. Michael Henry has been in the classroom and has preached this message since the beginning. We can help all of our students succeed if we show respect and focus entirely on the successes of our students.

Lastly, I am impressed by this man’s devotion to his church. Each week he leads his church community in song and preaches love for all people.

This district supported me because they finally found someone who worked in the interest of all students in the county. I support Mr. Henry because I know he will do the same.
