The Caribbean and Tennessee Student Environmental Alliance will host its biggest fundraiser: the 7th annual Save Water, Drink Wine, on Feb. 9 at The Barn Nursery.
Save Water, Drink Wine will showcase six wine stations paired with tapas, plus Hutton and Smith beer for the non-wine drinkers, as well as a silent auction featuring local artisans. For the true wine connoisseurs this year’s event adds a new twist, a blind wine tasting with a grand wine prize. The tasting is sponsored by Virgola wine bar and staffed by the TenneSEA Young Professionals.
Save Water, Drink Wine always features hard to access regional wines as well and this year is no exception as attendees can sample award-winning wines from Amber Falls Winery, bubbly wine from Keg Springs as well as blends from Bean’s Creek Winery, thanks to support from event sponsors like Tennessee American Water.
“Our commitment to the environment extends beyond the quality of our water and into the heart of who we are," said Tennessee American External Affairs Manager Daphne Kirksey. "We are stewards of the communities we serve, and we are proud of the role we play in protecting our environment. Teaming up with Save Water, Drink Wine is just one of the ways we work every day to help protect our natural resources.”
Other high level sponsors include WK Dickson, Colonial Pipeline, Lupis Pizza, The Raines Group, and Hamilton County Water Quality. Table Sponsors include city of Chattanooga Water Quality, the Tennessee Aquarium and TN River Rescue.
At the event, guests will enjoy their wine and food pairings while discussing local watershed issues and restoration efforts with partner organizations including the Tennessee Aquarium, the Tennessee River Gorge Trust, Reflection Riding and the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway Alliance.
All proceeds support Kids 4 Clean Water projects by Tennessee Student Environmental Alliance. TenneSEA is the local branch of Caribbean SEA, a non-profit, educational and environmental organization whose mission is to empower students to lead their communities to protect and restore their water. This organization, founded and directed by Mary Beth Sutton, works both in the Caribbean and in Tennessee through collaborative watershed projects.
“We have worked in the Tennessee Valley for over a decade to help kids and communities care for our waterways," said Ms. Sutton. "It is so fabulous to see otters return to Mountain Creek. We love that they are there….and we really want them to stay which means we have more work ahead of us.”
