Vanessa Ann Buckner, 52, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2019, in a local hospital.   

She was a 1985 graduate of Howard High School.   She was a member of New Horizon Baptist Church.   Vanessa enjoyed cooking and was well known for feeding any and everybody.  

She was preceded in death by her son, Quincy Bell; daughter, Wayne Shayla Buckner; brother, Raymond Sterkey; grandparents, Charlie and Dimples Smartt, Sr., Cleveland and Florine Bell, Sr.; uncles, Charles Smartt and Maurice Smith; aunts, Patricia Williams, Ernestine Turner, Rosa Smith, Virginia Johnson, and Sandra Bell Rice; stepmother, Renna Bell; cousin, Ricardo Turner, Sr.  

Survivors include her husband of 25 years, George Buckner; sons, Clevon Davis and Jikaylen Buckner; daughters, Keosha (David) Winters, Charnessa Bell, J’anna Buckner, and ShaDazia Buckner; adopted sons, Calvin Foster, Keywuan Parks, Larry Campbell, Demetrius and Larry Acklin, Dontae Taylor, Robert Taylor, Corey Craddock, Courtney Jones, Jalen Rashad, Kevin Varnell, and Jamal Ricks; adopted daughters, Shenita Pinkerton, Patience Brown, Latoya Barnes, and Quinnetta Craig; goddaughter, Patrice (Greg) Bumpass; grandsons, Ladarrius Bell, Quincy Bell, Jr., David Winters, Jr.; granddaughter, Cle’Shayla Davis, Arianna Calhoun, Amiyah Bell, A’aliyah Calhoun, and Cle’Asia Davis; father, Cleveland Bell, Jr; mother, Mary Tankersley; stepfather, Edward Tankersley; brothers, Cleveland Bell III and Marcus (Sindy) Tankersley; sisters, Shantell Tankersley and Tera (Alfred, Jr.) Johnson; uncle, James Hendley; aunts, Betty Mosley and Claudette Hendley; nephews, Marcus Tankersley Jr., and Ronald King Jr.; nieces, Tordazia Tankersley, Mikeala Tankersley, Tryanna Riggins, Markenzie Tankersley, Tinisha Wordlaw, Ciera Bell, and Rhyleigh Johnson; special friends, Michael Woods, Tim Turner, Peggy Galloway, Thembi Davis, Lillian Drew, Alice Smith, John Winters, Angela Freeman, Vincent Dean, and Alexia Burney; a host of other relatives and friends.  

Vanessa will lie in state on Friday, Nov. 15, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.  

Funeral services will follow at noon in the chapel with Pastor Willie Paul as the eulogist. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Hamilton County Has Record 71 In Hospital With Coronavirus; Tennessee Has 25 More Deaths

The number of coronavirus patients in Chattanooga hospitals has risen to the highest level yet - 71. That includes 37 from Hamilton County. The previous high was 65 on June 10. UTC Commencement Ceremonies Are Canceled

UTC officials have canceled commencement ceremonies that had been postponed to August, due to COVID. Officials said, "Back in March when COVID-19 first made its way to Chattanooga, a conclusion was reached to postpone commencement ceremonies until August.
