The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera will present Handel’s Messiah at First Baptist Church Chattanooga on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. The symphony will be joined by a roster of area vocalists, including the CSO Chorus, Chattanooga State Concert Choir and Adult Choir of First Baptist Church Chattanooga.
“We are thrilled to bring back Messiah this season,” says Kayoko Dan, CSO music director. “We will feature the portions of Messiah most commonly performed during the Christmas season, including the Halleluia Chorus.
In addition to our three exceptional choirs, four local artists will be featured as soloists: Christine Hassevoort, Rosella Ewing, Darrin Hassevoort, and Brett Hyberger. I am looking forward to sharing this monumental work to celebrate the season.”
Darrin Hassevoort, director of both the Chattanooga State Concert Choir and CSO Chorus, will lead the group of accomplished vocalists as they bring Handel’s work to life. “This is one of the most amazing musical compositions of all time,” says Mr. Hassevoort. “Every time that I return to it, I discover new elements in the music and text that I have not observed before. Handel's use of word-painting makes Messiah feel new and fresh with every performance.”
Seating for the concert is general admission, and tickets are $41 for adults and $15 for children and students. Tickets can be purchased by calling the CSO Box Office at 423-267-8583 or by visiting the CSO’s website at
