Edward "Sonny Boy” Brody was born on November 11, 1928, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Louis and Lillian Brody.

His mother gave him the nickname “Sonny Boy,” which stuck with him for the remainder of his life. He graduated from City High in 1946 and soon took over the family business, Rossville Jewelry Store Co. (later becoming Brody Jewelers in the late 60’s), around 1948 as his father became ill. Sonny, who always told people do not call me Mr. Brody, that’s my father’s name” often went to the jewelry store even in his 90s. There, he loved to visit with customers, friends, and classmates who would stop by to reminisce. Not many people, after all, can say that they have four generations of customers around the world! In his honor, there is even a road in Rossville named Brody Lane.”

Sonny’s greatest joys in life were spending time with family and serving his community. He was a Mason and a Shriner and supporter of many civic and philanthropic organizations.

Sonny married his beloved wife, Helen, in 1953 and the two were married for 63 years. Sonny is survived by children, Michael (Nancy), Cindy (Ben Sirota), Louis (Deana) and grandchildren Brittany Sirota, Elizabeth (Jay Vandeventer), David Brody, Abigail and Ava Brody.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Helen and his grandson Brent Sirota.

Funeral services will be on Friday, Nov. 8, at Mizpah Congregation on McCallie Ave. at 10 a.m.

A burial and graveside service will immediately follow at Bnai Zion Congregation Cemetery, 605 Lullwater Road. A Celebration of Life will follow the graveside service at Chattanooga Golf and Country Club. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Mizpah or Bnai Zion Congregations.

The family would like to thank Alexian Village Signal Mountain, Prestige Homecare, and Avalon Hospice for the continuous care that they have provided.

Arrangements are entrusted to Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, 1724 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37404, 423 265-4414.
