Summer Cleanup of the city’s oldest African-American cemetery is Saturday, Aug. 24 from 8-11:30 a.m.
After the cleanup, special recognition will be given to area descendants of those buried at Beck Knob.
Beck Knob Cemetery is at the corner of Dartmouth Street and Carrington Way in North Chattanooga.
Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome and asked to bring gloves and any brush clearing tools they would like to use. Snacks and water will be provided.
This year’s cleanup is part of Hurst United Methodist Church’s 137th anniversary celebration on Sunday, Aug.
25 at 11 a.m. The theme is “Hearts United in Love.” The speaker is Rev. Sandra Johnson, former Abingdon District Superintendent.
