Lee University School Of Music To Welcome Lapins And Lee For Guest Recital

Lee University’s School of Music will welcome guest artists Alexander Lapins, tuba and euphonium, and Paul Lee, piano, for their performance Friday, Sept. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Squires Recital Hall.

The recital will feature songs by Johann Sebastian Bach, Robert Schumann, and Allen Vizzutti, among others.

Dr. Lapins teaches applied tuba and euphonium chamber music at the University of Tennessee, where he also performs with UT’s School of Music faculty brass quintet. During the summer, he serves as an instructor at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and at the Miraphone Academy, held at Arizona State University. Dr. Lapins has also taught at Northern Arizona University, the University of Indianapolis, and Indiana State University.

Dr. Lapins has appeared as a soloist with orchestras, concert bands, and chamber groups. He has performed throughout China, Europe, South America, and the United States, and he is the only tubist to have won fellowships at both the Tanglewood Music Center and the Henry Mancini Institute.

Dr. Lapins holds graduate degrees in music performance from Indiana University and the University of Michigan and a bachelor's degree in music industry from James Madison University.

Dr. Lee is an assistant professor of piano at the University of West Alabama where he teaches piano, organ, and courses in music theory, history, and class piano. In addition to his work at UWA, Lee often collaborates with musicians across the country.

Recent engagements include multiple recitals in Arizona, concert appearances in New York City, and performances with the Ad Astra Music Festival in Russell, Kansas. Dr. Lee has performed with long-time collaborator Lapins throughout the Southwest and South.

Dr. Lee earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in collaborative piano from Arizona State University, his master’s degree from the University of Tennessee, and his undergraduate in piano and mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech.
