The Notre Dame girls soccer team traveled to Boyd Buchanan on Tuesday and put a spoiler on the Lady Bucs senior night with a 5-1 win.

Notre Dame scored first in the 22nd minute via senior Sofia Dobson. The ball popped out of a corner kick scramble and Dobson was there to hit it first time. Her shot kissed the inside of the near post on its way in.

After the water break, a deep cross from the right provided the service that junior Sarah Moore needed as she headed the ball past the Buccaneers keeper to give the Irish a 2-0 lead in the 26th minute.

Boyd Buchanan would pull one back in the 31st minute as junior Emma Vinson slid and got the final touch from a cross that was cut back to the top of the six yard box.

The wind was taken out of the sails of the Buccaneer ship with two minutes remaining in the first half as Notre Dame got a third. Moore faked a shot, made a defender jump, went around her and calmly placed her shot into the bottom right corner to restore the Lady Irish’s two goal lead.

Sophomore Kenzie Campbell added Notre Dame’s fourth goal with a left footed shot from inside the box in the 46th minute.

Notre Dame was awarded a penalty kick in the 52nd minute and Moore stepped up in an attempt to grab her hat trick, but was dramatically denied by Buccaneer shot stopper Kaitlyn Pope.

Moore got another chance to get her hat trick five minutes later and this time made no mistake. She let the ball run across her body - to get it on her right foot - before blasting her shot to the far corner to sink the Buccaneer ship for good.

“Sarah (Moore) has that break-away type of speed when she gets the chance, - and she can hit a ball - but she played really well tonight and scored some nice goals,” Notre Dame Head Coach Jim Shermerhorn said.

Coach Shermerhorn was delighted with the Lady Irish’s performance and their work rate on theroad in humid conditions.

“Overall I thought we played really well and scored some nice goals,” said Coach Shermerhorn. “We were able to rotate some players in and everything kept going as far as our pace, our work rate and our level of play didn’t drop off.”

Notre Dame will return to action on Monday to host McMinn County at 7 p.m.

Boyd Buchanan will look to bounce back as they travel to face region opponent Grace Baptist Academy at 6 p.m.
