U.S. Air Force Veteran Was Longtime Chemical Lab Analyst

Roy Davenport, 84, passed from this earthly life to eternal life on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, while at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. 

 

Roy was born on February 12, 1935 in Chattanooga. He graduated from Central High School in 1954. He served in the Air Force as an airman first class, going through training to be a bomber naval system flight line mechanic. He served for eight years with honorable discharge in 1962. He worked as a chemical lab analyst for TVA for 25 years and then with Fish and Wildlife Associates, under contract with TVA for another nine years. He retired in 1997. 

 

He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where he served with the AVL team and did money counting for many years before becoming a shut-in.  He lived at the East Ridge Retirement Center and loved his time and the people there. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline and LeRoy Davenport; his wife, Sue Davenport. 

 

He is survived by daughter, Mindy Henley (husband, Bo, and granddaughters- Emma, Cara, and Maddie); son, Steven Davenport (wife, Crystal and grandchildren, Tyler, Halie, Darius, Mason, Neyland, and Asher (due in December); brother, Lee Davenport (wife, Betty and family). 

 

The family will receive friends at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, at 822 Belvoir Ave., Chattanooga, on Monday, Sept. 23. Visitation will be from 4-6:30 p.m., with service beginning at 6:30 p.m. 

 

In lieu of flowers, you can contribute to the Sue Davenport Medical Fund, managed by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
