Walker Valley’s valiant comeback attempt fell just short Friday night at White County, losing 32-29.
Following a Warrior’s touchdown and PAT at the 6:56 mark of the fourth quarter, the Mustang’s quarterback Tucker Pope found Brody Swafford on a 27 yard pass to get within five points of White County.
A Pope to Noah Dupery pass for a two-point conversion narrowed the gap to three with 4:55 on the clock.
Unfortunately for Walker Valley that’s where the game would end.
The Mustangs (1-3, 0-1) led at the half by a 14-10 margin but a 15 point outburst in the third quarter by the Warriors (3-2, 0-0) sealed the deal.
Pope threw for 281 yards, connecting on 25 of 41 attempts, and four TDs, with one interception. He added another 32 yards on seven rushing attempts.
Walker Valley’s Kole Hall had 50 yards rushing on eight carries.
Duprey caught four passes for 31 yards and two scores plus the two-point conversion. Senior Griffen Broome led Walker Valley’s receivers with 71 yards on six catches, one for a touchdown.
