Like thousands before him another Lee University graduate is excited about the opportunity to return to Bradley County.

Todd Wright said, "It (Bradley County) is a great place for a family and it's a basketball rich head girls basketball coach spot.

"I know Bradley (Central) and Cleveland are very strong programs, but we feel there is enough talent for us to be competitive as well."

Wright, who bring more than 400 coaching victories from both the high school and collegiate ranks with him, has several Bradley County ties.

"I'm ready for the challenge.
I have family here and I graduated from Lee (University). I've also been down the last several yeas to watch my nephews (the Campbell boys) play at Walker Valley," he explained.

Taking over the Lady Mustangs means he will be working with his former brother-in-law, Will Campbell, the top Mustang hoop wrangler.

"Will and I are good friends and talk basketball all the time," Wright related. "I'm looking forward to getting to work with him.

"Walker Valley is a great academic school with a strong athletic program, which cares about their students and their athletes."

After graduating from Lee in 1995 with his bachelor of science in math education, he went on to earn his Masters from UT-Knoxville in 1999.

Wright's first coaching job came at Oliver Springs, winning 150 games in six seasons and made two TSSAA state tournaments.

After three seasons (2005-08) at Roane State, he took over the Maryville College program from 2008-10, winning the conference and making the NCAA DIII Tournament both years.

Wright spent the 2010-11 season coaching at Lenoir City High School before moving to William Blount, amassing a 156-101 record with six region tournament appearances in his eight years at the helm.

The Lady Governors reached the region tournament five consecutive years starting with the 2014-15 campaign and ending in 2018-19 and won more than 20 games in four of those seasons.

Moving to Eagleton Academy when it opened for its first season before he chose to step away and take the Oak Ridge position, which was five minutes from his house, so he could watch his son play high school hoops.

Although he didn't coach while teaching at Livingston Academy this past school year, he spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach for former Bearette great Paige (Redman) Taylor with the state-ranked Oak Ridge program.

"Paige and I talked a lot about Cleveland and what a great place it is," Wright related. "My fiance and I are getting married in July and she has a couple of school-age children that are excited about moving here."

Wright is taking over the Lady Mustang program after the resignation of former head coach Paul Sausville.
