I was truly disappointed in the BBB’s actions on Saturday. They advertised a Shred and Prescription Medication take-back day in order to help protect identity.
It was advertised from 9 a.m.-noon. I arrived on Saturday before 11 a.m., more than an hour before the scheduled and advertised end. I found a line of cars going both ways on Lee Highway, blocking traffic in both directions. I waited in line with my car idling like everyone else, for 40 minutes.
I certainly expected it to be busy. None had been scheduled for spring this year. There are usually two per year. Therefore, more people would come to this one. Many people are working on Friday, so more people would attend on Saturday. Simple common sense.
When I finally got to the driveway, I realized they were turning people away. Even though the parking lot was large, they were only allowing four cars per line in the driveway at a time. That’s what was creating the blocked traffic on Lee Highway. The two people standing in the driveway were telling each car, one at a time, they were full and weren’t accepting any more. Not paper documents, not medication. Nothing, just go away. We’re full.
If I knew how busy Saturday was going to be, why didn’t they? Why weren’t they prepared for the numbers of people they invited? The invitation didn’t say “Come until we reach a limit, it said from 9 a.m.-noon.
I heard the gentleman (who I believe was the head of BBB Chattanooga) say to come to Walgreens Highway 58 location next Friday morning. That’s the other side of town and many are working on Friday. Not an option.
I was really disappointed. This wasted lots of people’s time and lots of gasoline due to all those idling cars.
