Former County School Board member Kathy Lennon on Wednesday urged County Commission members to get behind the new Hamilton County Schools Foundation.

It is the nonprofit partner of Hamilton County Schools with a purpose "to raise funds in support of initiatives that go above and beyond the regular school district budget."

Ms. Lennon said $62,000 has been raised thus far. She said the goal is to raise $250,000 by the end of the year.

She said launching of the foundation "comes at a good moment", saying that Supt. Bryan Johnson was chosen state superintendent of the year and "we are at a good moment. We are moving forward."

Commissioner David Sharpe vowed support for the effort.
