Daniel Melendez
Daniel Jose Melendez, 83, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, after complications caused by COVID-19.
He was born on April 10, 1937, in Rio Tocuyo, Venezuela where he worked for most of his adult life. He married Irma Rojas in 1957, and together they raised 10 children. In 1988 he emigrated to the United States and later proudly became a naturalized US citizen. He worked many diverse jobs in the Chattanooga area until his retirement in 2005. Even after his retirement he continued to work odd jobs and stayed active enjoying spending time with his numerous family and friends.
He was greatly loved by all who knew him for his charm, kindness, and jovial character. He always had a ready smile and he took great pride in all his children and grandchildren’s accomplishments.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cristo Martinez, Paula Melendez; stepmother, Rosa Martinez, three brothers; four sisters; a son, Antonio; a grandson, Luis Daniel and a great-grandson, Kendrick.
He is survived by his wife Irma; sons, Daniel (Nelly), Misael (Opal), Pedro Jose (Gilmary), Luis (Maritza), Jesus, Carlos and Javier (Stefanie); daughters, Violeta (Rafael), Milexa, and Libia (Richard). He will be greatly missed by his 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, three brothers and three sisters.
Family and friends are invited to a gravesite service at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 27, at the Collegedale Cemetery with Pastor Jose Escobar officiating.
Per the current health situation and mandate of the Hamilton County Mayor, visitors must adhere to all CDC guidelines, including social distancing and the wearing of facial coverings for the services.
