Wayne L Piatt (Harland as he preferred to be called the last 25 years of his life) passed away peacefully on September 14, 2020 in Apison, at the age of 79.
He was born to Charles & Dorothy (Waber) Piatt on Nov. 23, 1940 in Shepherd, Mi.
He joined the Air Force right out of high school, an later chose to become a medic. He served from 1958-1962.
Harland lived in the Chattanooga area for the last 45 years. He had various jobs, including installing computer floors (back in the day), installing cabinets and working as a mechanical engineer.
His main joy in life came from serving others, whether in the form of tree work after a storm, giving rides to friends or sharing his hammered dulcimer music. He started by playing his gospel songs in small churches to gain confidence, and the Black Fox Community especially opened up their churches and hearts to him and he fell in love with them as well. He volunteered his time playing his dulcimer in many churches, assisted living centers, nursing homes and for his friends who were sick or needed encouragement.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda (Homer) Piatt, of Apison; daughter, Rebecca (Homer) Sorrells Walker (Mike), of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Amy Mergino (Michael); and grandchildren, Caleb, Levi, Emma, Jessica (Luke) and Benjamin.
