Andrew Witt, 85, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 6, 2021.

Mr. Witt was of the Baptist faith, and a believing Christian. He was a career telecommunications technician for AT&T.

Mr. Witt was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. Witt and Mamie Madewell Witt, by his wife Evelyn Jenkins Witt, and by three of his sisters, Lois Miller, Edith Witt, and Lillian Crawford.

He is survived by his son David Andrew Witt, sister Harriet Witt Jones, Aunt Aileen Rigsby, many nieces and nephews, and family friend Eva Weinapple.

Andrew was born in Spencer, Tn., on Jan. 22, 1935, when the Great Depression was still going on. When he was six years old the family re-located to Chattanooga. He attended and graduated Central High School in 1953. After high school he attended the University of Chattanooga (now UTC). He was drafted into the United States Army and served at a missile base in Alaska. After finishing his time in the active-duty service, he returned to Chattanooga and went to work for the telephone company that would eventually become part of AT&T. He worked for AT&T until his retirement.

Andrew is remembered for his kind giving heart and how he was always helping people in need. Andrew was always there for his family and friends. Andrew also enjoyed gardening, coin collecting, and reading. After dinner he was often seen reading the newspaper, a magazine, or a book. Andrew was also keenly interested in the space program, an interest he shared with his son. Mr. Witt was particularly proud of his military service, and he was glad to serve when his country called.

Funeral services will be conducted at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, with Reverend Bill Harvey  officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel on Saturday, Jan. 16, from 1-2 p.m.

We respectfully request that “social distancing”, wearing masks at all times, and all CDC guidelines be adhered to at the funeral home and cemetery.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
