Helen Coleman Manning, 97, of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, passed away on August 9, 2025, at Alexian Health Care Center surrounded by family.

Helen was born on May 8, 1928 to the late Earl and Pearl Hubbard. She graduated from City High School where she was a majorette. She was a longtime member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church.

Meme, as she was affectionately known, had many interests and talents. She loved to travel and visited over 30 countries as well as 49 states. She loved fashion and had a natural sense of style which led to many opportunities to model. She also loved to sew and enjoyed sewing for her granddaughter when she was young. In later years she began quilting and made many beautiful quilts. She enjoyed ballroom dancing. She was an avid Tennessee Vols football fan and could be found covered in all her orange blankets watching them on Saturdays.

Helen lived life to the fullest. At the age of 85 she went sky diving twice. She also experienced the thrill of riding around a NASCAR track.

Helen was a member of several boards including the Little Theater and was president of the Valamont Woman’s Club. She served as a docent at the Hunter Museum of American Art.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, James T. Coleman and Harry Manning; sons, James T. Coleman, Jr. and Christopher David Coleman; brothers, Bob and Gary Hubbard, and sister Betty Bryson.

She is survived by her grandson, James T. Coleman, III (Laura) of Atlanta, granddaughter, Dawn Elise Cox (Spencer) of Graysville, Tn., daughter-in-law, Gayle Coleman of Ooltewah; grandsons, Thomas and William Coleman of Atlanta; sisters Carol Jackson of Knoxville, and Linda McAllister of Chattanooga, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Red Cross, 4115 S. Access Road, Chattanooga TN 37406 where she volunteered for over 25 years.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 25, at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson. A graveside service will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson. Please share your thoughts and memories at www.chattanooganorthchapel.com
