Robert H. Burgiss
Robert H. Burgiss, 78, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at a Chattanooga hospital.
He was the son of the late William Arthur “Bill” and Mary Lou Burgiss and was also preceded in death by his siblings, Annie Burgiss Ledford and William R. “Ronnie” Burgiss; and mother and father-in-law, Cecil and Gladys Gates.
He was a United States Marine veteran, serving on the USS Saratoga and the USS Roosevelt. He worked at Burlington, Westvaco and Bill Brown Trucking. He then enjoyed his retirement by going to bluegrass get together and gardening. He also loved helping others.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda Burgiss; children, Gail Bottoms, Becky Pippenger (John), Janice Herron (David), and Brian Burgiss; grandchildren, Jason Pippenger, Nickie Russell (Eric), Dylan Pippenger, Destiny Herron and Skylar Herron; great-grandchildren, Luca Pipperger, Juliona Pippenger, Gabriella Pippenger, Nora Russell and Alec Robinson; sister-in-law, Brenda Allen (Clarence); brother-in-law, Miles Gates (Harvie); siblings, Ernest Burgiss (Phyllis), Sue Evans
(David), and Peggy Gilley; also cousins, nieces, nephews, cousins including a special cousin Betty Melton Gamble.
A Remembrance of Life Service will be held Wednesday at 12 p.m. at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee St. Chapel with Rev. David Evans officiating. The interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. John, Jason, Dylan Pippenger, Donald Burgiss Kevin Ledford and Dee Evans will serve as casket bearers.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the funeral home.
